Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never done dance classes before. Will it be hard? What classes should I take?
If you haven't had prior training before it is good in a way.  It means a clean slate, no bad habits, no preconceived notions of how things need to be done or how to move. Just keep an open mind and don’t get frustrated if you can’t get a certain move. Sometimes it just takes practice and there are plenty of people here to help you get it. Which class to take all depends on which style you want to learn.

How much do classes cost?
Individual casual classes are $18 per person. However, if you intend on coming every week to an allocated class, committing to a membership has various benefits.  Firstly, classes will be cheaper, for example one class on the lowest membership level (Bronze) will cost $14.50 instead of $18.  Secondly, you are guaranteed a spot in classes.  Some classes have a size limit and unfortunately if you come as a casual and the class is full of members, we will reluctantly have to tell you to come back at another session.
Memberships are direct debited every fortnight on Thursdays from either a bank account or credit card that you nominate.  There is a one-time initial $5.50 setup fee and a minimum contract term of 3 payments (6 weeks) applies.  After the 6 week period you are able to cancel at any time at no charge

Do I have to pre-register for classes?
When you sign up for a membership please advise us which class you are wanting to take.  That way we can keep a track of how many people are expected to attend class each week.  If you are paying for a casual class come 5 - 10 minutes before class on the day and if there is room we'll fit you in.

What should I wear?
Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Some people like dancing in baggy clothing, other people like dancing in tight clothing, its completely up to you.  However, wear sneakers, please don’t wear stilletos, high heels or shoes that will dent/scratch my floor. I’ve put a lot of money into the flooring of the studio and if you crack it with your high heels I will crack you. Kidding. But you will make me sad and I will hit you up with the repair bill so don’t do it.

When is the studio open?
The studio is open for adult classes from 6pm – 8pm Monday to Thursday and 12pm – 2pm Saturdays. Kids classes are 5:30pm Fridays and 10am - 12pm Saturdays.  Please check out the timetable page for class times.  The studio can be contacted via email info@thecipher.com.au for any other enquiries you may have.

Can I hire the studio?
Yes, good studio space is hard to find these days. You can hire the studio in 1 hour intervals as long as there is no class allocated to that time slot.  Email info@thecipher.com.au to book your session.

Do you have dancers for hire?
Yes, we always have a lot of up and coming new talent that are keen to perform as well as experienced dancers who have been dancing on stages for years.  We can put together show pieces suited to your event or we can send out teachers to your event to teach a class.  Again, email  info@thecipher.com.au to discuss your needs.
